Travel awards

Travel awards are available for BIOTRANS graduate students who will present their original research as the first author at conferences. Each BIOTRANS student can apply for up to $1,500 travel award per year in total, per availability of BIOTRANS fund. The fund can be distributed over multiple travels. Preference will be given to those who have not received a travel award recently. The fund can be used to cover transportation, lodging (up to lodging limit), food (up to M&IE limit), and registration/abstract fees. The authors must acknowledge the BIOTRANS program in their conference talk or poster. Please fill out the application here. 

Publication awards

Publication awards are available for BIOTRANS graduate students to cover publication cost of their first or co-first author manuscripts. Each student can apply for up to $1,500 publication award per year in total, depending on the availability of BIOTRANS fund. The fund can be distributed over multiple manuscripts. Preference will be given to those who have not received a publication award recently. A manuscript must be accepted for publication by a peer-reviewed journal to be eligible for the publication award. The authors must acknowledge the BIOTRANS program in the published paper. Invited speaker sponsorship

BIOTRANS supports bringing outside speakers to Virginia Tech, whose presentation will align with the theme of biological transport. Speakers may be scheduled for any of the existing seminar series. Announcement for the seminar must acknowledge the BIOTRANS support. Please forward the announcement to Jing Chen (chenjing@vt.edu), such that she can forward it to the BIOTRANS faculty and students. The invitation must be initiated by either BIOTRANS students or BIOTRANS faculty members. Each research group can apply for up to $1,500 of speaker cost per year in total, depending on the availability of BIOTRANS fund. The fund can be distributed over multiple speakers/trips. Please fill out the application here.
