Dr. Foroutan’s areas of expertise and interest include developing and applying advanced computational techniques to study environmental flow systems. These systems are diverse in nature, scale, and physics and include, for example, river, ocean, and atmosphere. By combining simulation results with theory, experiments, and observations, he characterizes the transport of momentum, heat, moisture, pollution, and disease in these systems. He is actively engaged in global change projects related to climate dynamics, atmospheric science and air quality, human exposure and health, and biological systems, where environmental flows and transport processes have a critical role.
