Dr. Marr is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She leads the Applied Interdisciplinary Research in Air Laboratory, which applies an interdisciplinary approach to study pollutants in indoor and outdoor air. She is especially interested in emerging or non-traditional aerosols such as microorganisms and engineered nanomaterials and how they are transformed in the environment. Prior to the pandemic, she was one of a small number of scientists who studied viruses in the air. Currently, her research focuses on achieving a mechanistic understanding of influenza transmission and virus inactivation in the environment.
